A kiss on the wrist by Shrutee Choudhary

on the night of our first encounter you gave me a kiss not on my cheeks or my hand or lips

you kissed me on my wrist

I frowned as you dabbed it softly, as if to erase it

you made me frown a lot because of all the unusual things you did but then again you made me smile because of them

a few days later, I asked you why

and you said you wanted to feel as close to me as possible

“then why not the lips,” I asked

“because it’s not close enough” you said

“I wanted to feel your pulsating heartbeat the very life that runs through your veins like the wilderness inside is the very reason you exist so bold and true”

“I wanted to touch you where you are the most you.”
